The Bible calls Satan by many different names. Each name has a slightly different meaning. The many other names for Satan give a fuller picture of who Satan is and what he does. This list of names for Satan has been taken from the King James and the New King James Version of the Bible.

Abaddon - “Destroying Angel”

The Hebrew name “Abaddon” means, “Destruction” or “Destroying Angel.”  Revelation 9:11 makes reference to this angel, “And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.”

Accuser –“complainant at law”

Revelation 12:10, “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.’”

Adversary –“the arch-enemy, challenger, opponent, rival”

1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Angel of light—“a deceiver”

2 Corinthians 11:14,“… For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”

Angel of the bottomless pit – “His destiny is empty and desolate”

Revelation 9:11, “And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.” 

Anointed covering cherub – “His original position was glorious and majestic”

Ezekiel 28:14, “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.”

Antichrist—“opponent of Jesus Christ on judgment day”

1 John 4:3, “And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.”

Apollyon—“Greek word for destroyer”

The Greek name for Satan that means, “Destroyer.” Revelation 9:11, “And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.”

Beast—“he is ferocious and base, representative of all things untamed”

“Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, ‘If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.’” (Revelation 14:9,10)

Beelzebub—“The term comes from “Baal Zebub” which means, “lord of the flies.” This could also be understood as the dung-god. Baal was a Canaanite god.

Matthew 12:24, “Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”

Belial—“worthlessness, wickedness” The term is personified as a demonic influence.

2 Corinthians 6:15, “And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?”    

Deceiver—“possess great ability to deceive, trick, mislead, con, betray and lie”

Revelation 12:9, “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Devil—“slanderer, evil fiend, sower of weeds”

1 John 3:8, “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”

Devourer—“to consume or use up greedily, 

Malachi 3:11, “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.”

Dragon—“a fascinating type of serpent, perhaps with the ability to capture ones imagination”

Revelation 12:9, “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Enemy—“to hate, to be actively hostile”

Matthew 13:39, “The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.”

Evil one—“he personifies everything evil, all things malicious and wicked.”

John 17:15, “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.”

Father of lies—“the source of things false, fabricated and opposite of truth”

John 8:44, “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

God of this age—“has influence in the realms of the flesh and worldliness”

2 Corinthians 4:4, “Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”

King of Babylon—“rules through confusion”

Isaiah 14:4, “That you will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say: ‘How the oppressor has ceased, the golden city ceased!’”

Lawless one—“unruly, uncontrollable, outside the rule of law, anarchy”

2 Thessalonians 2:8-10 “And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

Leviathan—“a monster, hideous creature”

Isaiah 27:1, “In that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, 
Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, 
Leviathan that twisted serpent; 
And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea.”

Liar—“fraud, fake pretender, imposter, phony, hypocrite”

John 8:44, “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

Lucifer—“brightness, When Venus appears before the sunrise, she is called “Lucifer” at that time it is the third brightest object in the sky after the sun (Christ) and the moon (church).

Isaiah 14:12-14, “How you are fallen from heaven,
 O Lucifer, son of the morning!
 How you are cut down to the ground,
 You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart:
 ‘I will ascend into heaven,
 I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
 I will also sit on the mount of the congregation 
On the farthest sides of the north; 
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’”

Murderer—“killer, assassin, slayer, He seeks to kill and destroy”

John 8:44, “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

Power of darkness—“shadows, obscurity and hidden”

Colossians 1:13, 14, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”

Prince of the power of the air—“to take control of–This may be an indication of using airwaves as a medium of power and influence i.e. the modern media”

Ephesians 2:1,2, “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.”

Roaring lion—“an attempt to intimidate and cause fear, he is a fake lion”

1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Rulers of the darkness—“ in reference to his influence the shadows and hidden things”

Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Ruler of this world—“the place Satan actually exercises some power and control”

John 12:31,32, “Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

Satan—“name for the opponent of all things good, the evil one,

Mark 1:13, “And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.”

Serpent of old—“serpent has to do with magic, or casting a spell or to hiss, whisper or mesmerize—to forecast, pretend or predict. This being a false prediction or a trick”

Revelation 12:9, “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Son of perdition—“to lose or suffer loss, destroyed completely”

2 Thessalonians 2:3,4, “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

Tempter—“to entice, charm, lure or otherwise attempt to persuade”

Matthew 4:3, “Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, ‘If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.’”

Thief—“crook, burglar, robber”

John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Wicked one—“depraved, immoral, heinous, corrupt, evil”

Ephesians 6:16, “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”

Genesis 14:13-16, “And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.  Luke 10:17-20,  “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”

4. Maintain Strong Passion

 Isaiah 9:6-7, “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

 5. Resist The Devil – Do Not Negotiate With Him

 James 4:7, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

 6. Binding And Loosing

Mathew 16:19, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

 7. Know Your Enemy

 2 Corinthians 2:11, “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”

 8. Three Steps In Spiritual Warfare Training

 1 Samuel 17:33-37, “And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

“And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:  And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.  Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.  David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.”

1 Samuel 18 :5, “And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.”

David was already known as a “Mighty Man Of War” BEFORE HE KLLED GOLIATH!

1 Samuel 16:18, “Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.”

9. Conquering The Battle Within

2 Corinthians 7:5, … “our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. “

2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

2 Thessalonians 2:1-2, “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.”

 10. Operate Under Spiritual Authority

Set Under Authority

 Luke 7:6-10, ”Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”

Mathew 24 provides a detailed description of things to come.

And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Mathew 24:3-14)

Isaiah 53 1-5

¹ Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?  ² For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. ³ He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. ⁴ Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken,  Smitten by God, and afflicted. ⁵ But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

This verse shows us the incredible price Jesus paid to make miraculous healing possible.

Both SIN and SICKNESS were defeated by Jesus through the suffering He experienced at Calvary.

I do not know why some people are healed and others are not. That is something resting in the divine providence of the almighty. Yet, I have personaly witnessed may people miraculously healed by the power of the Spirit.

There are many ways to pray for the sick.

• One by one anointing with oil as a symbol of the Holy Spirit
• Word of Faith – spoken over a multitude of people al at once.
• Believers praying for each other, through laying on of hands
• Praying over the telephone or over long distances
• Sending a prayer cloth or prayer handkerchief as a symbol of faith and comfort, in that prayer has been made.

Psalm 30:2 KJV “O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.”

Psalm 107:19-20 KJV “Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Jeremiah 30:17 NKJV For I will restore health to you And heal you of your wounds,’ says the LORD, ‘Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.”

Malachi 4:2 NKJV) But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings;

Matthew 4:23 NKJV And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

Matthew 8:16 NKJV When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,

Jesus gave his disciples Power to Heal the Sick

(Matthew 10:1 NKJV) And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

The Power Of Healing In the Church Today

(James 5:14-16 NKJV) Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. {15} And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. {16} Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

A Simple Prayer to Release the Power of Healing

“I now pray the prayer of faith over you for healing. I release healing into your body in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Through the name of Jesus, I command every spirit of infirmity to leave.”

“ By His stripes healing is being released into your body.”

As I type this first letters… I am officially beginning to write my first ever BLOG Entry! Now, I realize blogging has been around a long time however, I am just beginning.

When it comes to beginnings the most important beginning of all time was recording in Genesis 1:1. In the beginning God … He is the chief creator,  the ultimate originator.

It is my hope that every new adventure or phase of my life begins with God. May he be the source of all new ideas, plans and decisions.  The undertakings of life that have begun in God will no doubt have a favorable ending.

So … it is my hope and prayer right now that this new blogging adventure begins with the leading of the Holy Spirit and continues in the same manner. My sincere desire is that each and every entry, however many or few they may be, is prompted by the Spirit.
